All Angle Light Reception: Organic Crystal for Encrypted Visible Light Communication
Organic Crystal Active Waveguide as an All-Angle Signal Receiver and Transmission Platform for Encrypted Visible Light Communication.
In a departure from conventional optical media, this work explores the use of an organic crystal waveguide as an optical channel in a Visible Light Communication (VLC) system. The smooth, defect-free, and highly luminescent crystal enables robust signal transmission using nothing but light and molecular order.
“No fibers. No alignment. Just light, a crystal, and the elegance of spectroscopy.”
By guiding binary-encoded light pulses across its surface, the organic crystal SAA acts as a photonic platform that handles both active and passive waveguiding. Fluorescence signals are reliably detected, even under tilted or off-axis illumination, establishing the system as an all-angle signal receiver, something traditional optical fibers can’t easily achieve.
"The very air we breathe is infused with invisible signals of light, linking devices and people in an end-to-end encrypted world."

A custom-built transmitter sends modulated light encoded with real-time data, including text and grayscale images. The crystal converts and guides the signal, while a simple photodiode reads it. No fibers, no lenses, no alignment needed!
This work marks the first demonstration of an organic crystal-based VLC system that combines wavelength conversion, wide-angle light capture, and compact visible light communication, hinting at a future where photonic communication is not only more efficient but also far more flexible, elegant, and organic.
